TO THE ISO MEMBER BODIES

Dear Sir or Madam,

We are pleased to announce that the ISO template and model document(version 1.8)for the preparation and formatting of draft standards are now available on the ISO/CS FTP cerver. The template and model document are designed not only to provide on-the-spot assistance in the drafting of standards but also to ensure that the electronic file of the document that you produce

As far as practicable, the typography and content are in conformity with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 3, 1989, although certain excoptions exist. Further details are given in the reference manual provided with the template and model document.

The model document may be used in all popular word processing systems. The template provides in addition some automated features intended to simplify document preparation, and can be used with Word 6 and Word 7 under any version of Microsoft Windows.

Early next year both the template and the model document will be revised for conformity with the forthcoming third edition of the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 3; at that time they will also be made available on diskette. Details of how to obtain the template on diskette will be provided as appropriate. Meanwhile , you are invited to download version 1.8 as described overleaf.

The Internet name of the server is "ftp.iso.ch".

Login with the username "anonymous". As the password, specify your internet address.

The template is located in the directory "/usera/pub/out/template/aisov 18".

HOW TO UNPACK THE ISO TEMPLATE AND MODEL DOCUMENT, VERSION 1.8

  1. Copy the files ISOSTD.ZIP and PKUNZIP.EXE to the directory where you would like to unpack the template files.
  2. Check that the size of each of the two files matches the size given below.
  3. Make the directory where you put the files your current directory.
  4. Type PKUNZIP ISOSTD.ZIP to unpack the files.
  5. Print the file INSTALL.TXT for further instructions.

ISOSTD.ZIP: 223 076 bytes (1996-11-18T06:41)

PKUNZIP.EXE: 29 378 bytes (1993-02-01T21:04)

Wherever possible, please use the template or model document for preparing all your drafts.
